Kara McCartney
FOUNDER AND CEO
Kara McCartney is a copywriter, web designer, and SEO specialist who specializes in uncovering the unique genius of every individual. The first website Kara McCartney ever wrote was for a 100-person startup with a $100M valuation. Since then, she’s written copy and designed websites for national nonprofits, publicly-traded companies, billion-dollar organizations, government agencies, and mom-and-pop businesses in DC and across the country.
And yet, no matter how many clients Kara works with, she arrives at one conclusion: Thousands of organizations can follow the exact same model, yet no two will approach it the same way.
Kara’s niche lies in helping organizations find their voice. Her unique process of interviewing each individual client allows founders to speak freely, without the worry of self-doubt or judgment. Through these hours-long conversations (and her 12+ pages of notes), she pinpoints a client’s competitive edge—even in the most saturated industries.
A former brand manager of an award-winning marketing agency and SEO strategist for 7+ years, Kara has ghost written articles for brands including Givebutter, Butcherbox, Yelp, and Greenvelope. Striking the balance between SEO and brand identity, she’s improved brands’ web traffic by over 300% without sacrificing their unique voice.
Kara McCartney launched her copywriting and web design studio in 2017. Since then, she’s brought business owners’ sometimes-ambiguous visions to life—first through a Google Doc, then through a line of code. Her favorite sentence to hear from a client? “I knew what I wanted to say…but you found the words to say it!”
Kara often doubles as her clients’ biggest fan, and you’ll often find her reading the Clockout DC newsletter or cheering on the DC Abortion Fund. A proud DC resident, Kara resides in Columbia Heights with her husband.
